RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This is critical for the American Idiot tone. Used as a clean boost to tighten low-end and push the amp into that snarling punk territory. A Boss SD-1 or Behringer TO800 are budget alternatives.

Why these settings

The Gamma G-50 is a budget solid-state amp with less natural midrange bark than a Marshall JCM800. Push the mids to 7 (vs typical Marshall at 5-6) to compensate for the flatter EQ curve. Keep bass at 4 to prevent muddiness on palm mutes. Without a Tube Screamer, the tone will lack the tight, focused attack Billie Joe gets—strongly recommend acquiring one. Your Jackson's humbuckers are hotter than a P90, so gain is dropped from what a Les Paul Junior would need.

PRO TIPBillie Joe's right hand stays close to the bridge for that tight, aggressive attack—anchor your palm lightly on the bridge saddles and use all downstrokes on the power chord riffs. The tone lives in the pick attack as much as the amp settings.
