He-Man Woman Hater amp settings — NUX Amp Academy Stomp

The EXTREME guitar tone for “He-Man Woman Hater”, dialed in for a NUX Amp Academy Stomp with a Cort EVL K5 Loaded With Seymour Duncan Perpetual Burn Pickup On Bridge. Studio version, Pornograffitti (1990)

Original rig

ADA MP-1 preamp into power amp, Washburn N4 with Bill Lawrence L-500 bridge pickup, Greenback speakers cranked for speaker breakup. Some tracks possibly blended with Gallien-Krueger 250ML.

Tight, percussive high-gain with searing upper-mid grind, chimey harmonics, and aggressive pick attack clarity — NOT scooped, very mid-forward with controlled low-end thump

01Rat

Use as clean boost/edge stacking into the amp model's drive — the ADA MP-1 had a tight, focused saturation similar to a pushed Rat with the filter opened up. Keep distortion LOW to add grit without mud.

Why these settings

The ADA MP-1 was a tight, mid-focused rack preamp — the NUX's JCM800 model gets closest to that punchy British grind. Nuno ran moderate gain with speaker breakup doing heavy lifting; your Perpetual Burn pickup is hotter than the L-500, so gain stays at 6 rather than 7-8. Mids pushed to 7 recreates that honky, harmonically-rich bark. The Rat at low distortion adds edge and pick definition without stacking into mud.

PRO TIPNuno's signature attack comes from picking hard directly over the bridge pickup pole pieces with the pick angled aggressively — this produces that percussive 'chirp' on the attack transient. For the Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee section, use a mono delay at 220ms, 0% feedback, 50% mix.
