01Boss DS-1 Distortion

Main gain source — amp stays clean, DS-1 provides all distortion

Tone 6 · Level 7 · Dist 6
Why these settings

The Marshall G15MS is a small solid-state practice stack with no presence or reverb controls and limited gain on tap. The Engl Powerball's tight high-gain saturation is unreachable from the amp alone, so your DS-1 becomes the gain source while the amp stays on its cleanest setting to avoid muddy double-gain stacking. Mid pushed to 6 compensates for the DS-1's natural mid-scoop and recovers the Powerball's punchy mids.

PRO TIPTune to Drop D before dialing in — the riff's percussive palm-muted attack on the low D string is the entire identity of this tone, and your picking hand precision matters more than any knob position.
