The original JMP-1/Mesa rig is a preamp-into-power-amp setup with scooped mids and massive low-end. Katana Brown mode approximates Rectifier-style saturation well. Mid at 3 (vs original 3.5) because Brown is already slightly scooped — going lower muds out on a 12" speaker. Your JS22 humbuckers are hotter than the original JB, so gain 7 (not 8) prevents fizz. Use the Katana's Global EQ to scoop 800Hz by -3dB and boost 120Hz by +2dB for the full nu-metal chunk.

PRO TIPPalm-mute pressure is everything here — Carpenter uses a heavy, consistent mute right at the bridge saddles for that tight 'chunk' without flub. If it sounds loose, move your muting hand closer to the saddles, not further.
