Why these settings

The original tone relies on a cranked British Marshall stack pushed into tight high-gain saturation. On the Fender 15 practice amp, engage the Drive channel and push Gain to 7 while pushing Middle to 7 to replicate Marshall mid-bark on a Fender-voiced solid-state circuit. Keep Bass around 5 so the small 8-inch speaker doesn't flub out on the aggressive percussive riffing. Adding a dedicated distortion pedal later into the clean channel will get you much closer to the record's heavy punch.

PRO TIPEngine No. 9 is in E Standard tuning; attack the strings aggressively near the bridge with heavy downstrokes and use the palm of your picking hand to choke the staccato rests cleanly.
