The Fender Twin Reverb is an ultra-clean platform that cannot physically achieve Stephen Carpenter's cascaded preamp saturation on its own, so the Volume/Gain is pushed to 7 with the Bright switch off and Mid pushed to 8 to combat Fender's natural mid-scoop. To fully match the record, add a dedicated high-gain distortion pedal like a Rat or Boss HM-2/DS-1 in front; when you add the pedal, drop the Twin's volume back to 3-4. Clean intro/verse: roll the guitar volume back to 4-5 or play with a lighter touch.
