Demon's Eye amp settings — Nux Mighty 40 BT MKII

The Deep Purple guitar tone for “Demon's Eye”, dialed in for a Nux Mighty 40 BT MKII with a Epiphone ES 339. Studio version, Fireball album (1971)

Original rig

Ritchie Blackmore used a 1968 Fender Stratocaster with a scalloped fretboard into a Marshall Major 200W head driving 4x12 cabs, cranked for natural tube breakup. Aiwa TP-1011 tape recorder used as a preamp boost for extra grit and compression. Hornby-Skewes Treble Booster in front for lead tones.

Grinding mid-forward crunch with aggressive pick attack, vocal-like sustain, and that signature early 70s British hard rock bite

Why these settings

Your ES-339's humbuckers are darker and fatter than Blackmore's Strat single coils, so treble is dropped from what a Strat would need and mids stay high to preserve that aggressive bark. The Mighty 40 BT's Plexi-style model gets you in the ballpark, but you need the treble booster block from your MG-30 running into it to nail the sizzling top-end cut Blackmore got from his Hornby-Skewes unit.

PRO TIPBlackmore's pick attack is essential to this tone—use a heavy pick, strike the strings hard near the bridge, and dig in aggressively on accents. His vibrato was wide and fast, almost violin-like. Roll your guitar's volume to 7-8 for the verses to clean up slightly, then full up for the solo sections.
