RECOMMENDED — not currently owned
The 1959 Bassman is a vintage-voiced tube platform with high clean headroom and a round, loose low-end that cannot replicate the modern, tight, cascaded high-gain saturation of Tremonti's Dual Rectifier on its own. For today's playability without pedals, crank the Bright Volume to 9 for maximum power-tube crunch while pulling bass down to 4 to prevent the open-back 4x10 tweed cabinet from flubbing out on drop-D palm mutes. Adding a high-gain modern distortion pedal will immediately bridge the gap, at which point you would drop the Bassman volume to 3 and run it clean. Clean intro/verse: roll the guitar volume down to 3-4 for a chimey clean-up sound.
