01Boss DS-1 Distortion (or any silicon fuzz/distortion)
RECOMMENDED — not owned. A silicon Fuzz Face (Dunlop JHF1) or DS-1 into the Brown channel mimics the Rangemaster+fuzz stack. Without this pedal, crank amp gain to 8 instead and accept a slightly cleaner result.
Katana Brown channel set clean (gain 0) because the fuzz pedal is the gain source; without the pedal, set gain to 8 and accept less saturation. Bass maxed at 10 vs original's 6-9 to compensate for ES-335 humbuckers lacking the SG's aggressive midrange bark and to offset the Katana's tighter low-end voicing vs a cranked Laney. Mid pushed to 8 (vs original 6) because Brown channel is slightly scooped compared to a Laney. Treble cut hard to 3 because C# tuning and maximum fuzz need zero brightness. Retune to C# standard (or D standard minimum) or the riff loses all doom weight.
