01Dunlop Cry Baby Bass Wah (105Q) or standard Cry Baby

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for the N.I.B. intro. Sweep slowly from heel to toe for that vocal 'wah' sound. If unavailable, park a standard wah at 70% forward for a static nasal tone.

Why these settings

Your Jazz Bass has brighter, more scooped single-coil pickups vs Butler's dark P Bass humbucker. I've rolled tone to 5 and boosted mids to 9 to compensate for the J Bass's inherent mid-scoop. Treble dropped to 5 (Butler's old dead strings had zero high-end sparkle). The Machintec Demolidor is an unknown amp — treat these settings as starting points on a generic solid-state platform; if it has a 'vintage' or 'warm' voicing switch, engage it.

PRO TIPButler achieved that famous wooly thud partly from ancient strings — if your strings are new and bright, play closer to the neck (over the end of the fretboard) and consider palm-muting very lightly near the bridge to kill sustain and treble. For the wah intro, sweep in slow quarter-note pulses, not fast funk chops.
