RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Use as a boost to tighten low-end and push mids for lead clarity. The Crush 20's gain alone gets fuzzy before reaching Gates' saturation — this pedal fills the gap.
The Crush 20's Dirty channel is warm and compressed like larger Oranges but lacks the headroom and tight response of a Bogner Uberschall. I've pushed gain to 8 (its usable ceiling) and cut bass to 4 to prevent mud through the 8-inch speaker. Mid at 6 compensates for Orange's naturally scooped voicing vs the mid-forward Bogner. A TS-style pedal is essential to reach Gates' articulate saturation — without it, you'll get fuzzy crunch, not singing lead tone.
