01Boss DS-1 Distortion

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for reaching Uberschall-level saturation. Run amp near-clean and let the DS-1 provide all gain.

Why these settings

The Frontman 10G is a 10W practice amp with no mid knob, no presence, and cannot produce high-gain saturation on its own. Keep amp gain at 7 max to avoid flubby breakup from the small speaker. A DS-1 or similar distortion pedal is mandatory to reach Uberschall territory — without it, this tone is unreachable. Bass reduced from the original's 5-6 to 4 because the 6" speaker cannot handle low-end push in Drop D.

PRO TIPPalm mute directly over the bridge saddles for the tight 'chunk' on the main riff — muting too far toward the neck loosens the attack and loses the percussive metal snap Syn gets.
