Why these settings

The original used a JCM800 with an OD-1 boosting the front end for tight lows and searing mids. The MG30CFX OD1 channel is voiced similarly to a JCM800 crunch but with less dynamic range. Mid at 7 compensates for the MG's slightly scooped solid-state voicing versus the original's tube midrange bark. Gain stays moderate at 6 because Jeff's tone comes from the OD-1 boost tightening the signal, not from saturating the amp—the MG will get flubby past 7. Without an SD-1 or TS-style pedal to replicate the boost, you lose some of that surgical low-end tightness; a BOSS SD-1 (Drive 1, Tone 6, Level 10) in front would get you 80% closer.

PRO TIPJeff's secret is brutal palm-mute precision with the pick angled sharply and striking close to the bridge—practice muting so hard the open notes almost choke, then release into the riff; this percussive attack is half the tone.
