01Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive
Use as a tight boost into the Brown channel — Drive at 0 keeps the amp as the gain source while the SD-1 tightens low-end and adds pick attack. This is the 'Tube Screamer trick' essential for modern death metal tightness.
The original uses an EVH 5150 III which has cascaded high-gain stages and a naturally tight, scooped voicing. The Katana Brown channel approximates this but runs hotter in the gain circuit — with the SD-1 boosting the front end (Drive 0, Level high), amp gain drops to 0 to prevent double-saturation mud. The Kramer HSS passive humbuckers have lower output than the original's EMG 81, so the SD-1 compensates with compression and level push. Mid at 4 (not fully scooped) because the Brown channel is already mid-scooped by design.
