The original Mesa Mark I is mid-forward and compresses naturally when cranked; your solid-state Frontman stays clean and scooped even at max gain. Without a distortion pedal, you will not reach the song's signature fuzz-wall — amp gain 7 gives mild grit for the clean intro, but the chorus requires external dirt. Rolling tone to 6 on the Strat's neck pickup warms the single-coil brightness toward the P-90 original.
