RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Eddie used a subtle, slow phase sweep. A used MXR Phase 90 or Behringer VP1 clone gets you there for under $40. Without this, you lose the swirling character but the core tone still works.

Why these settings

The Peavey TransTube is solid-state with a tight, less spongy response than a Variac'd Plexi. Push mids to 8 (vs the dimed Marshall) to compensate for the TransTube's flatter midrange. Gain at 7 gives saturation without the fizz solid-state amps produce at max. Rolled tone knob to 6 on your Strat's single coil tames the ice-pick highs that a PAF humbucker wouldn't have.

PRO TIPEddie's secret was his right-hand attack position — pick closer to the neck pickup area (not over the bridge) to fatten single-coil response and get that vocal, less brittle quality even with high gain.
