01Boss ML-2 Metal Core
Use as primary gain source; Katana Brown channel set to clean-ish to avoid double-gain mud — drop amp gain to 3 if stacking feels flubby
Your ESP Alexi-200 has passive EMG-designed pickups — slightly less compressed output than Matt Heafy's active EMG 81s, so amp gain stays at 7 rather than backing off further. The Katana's Brown channel approximates the 5150's saturated midrange; I pushed mids to 6 (vs a scooped 3-4 on the original Mesa Mark settings) because the Katana Brown is already tighter in the low-mids than a real 5150. The ML-2 can substitute for the OD808 boost role but adds its own distortion — keep Dist moderate to retain note definition.
