The Katana 50 MkII is set to CLEAN amp type with low gain to act as a neutral platform for the Boss GX-100 into the front input. Steve Lukather tracked this iconic solo with active EMG pickups through rack preamps and heavy studio processing, so using the GX-100 for high-gain compression, micro-detune, and delay prevents amp fizz. Rolling the S520 tone knob back slightly to 8 softens passive humbucker treble to replicate the rounded liquid attack of his Valley Arts neck setup. Clean rhythm parts: tap the GX-100 preset to bypass the X-OD drive block while leaving the detune and delay active.
