Why these settings

The original uses a Bass VI baritone—your Strat cannot replicate that low register. Use the neck pickup with tone rolled back to 4 to darken the bright Strat single coils and approximate the Bass VI's warm character. The Valeton GP-200's Fender-style clean model with fully scooped mids (0) matches the Peavey Ultra's documented settings. Play the riff an octave higher than written or tune down if your strings allow.

PRO TIPRobert Smith plays melodic lines on a single string linearly rather than across multiple strings in box positions—watch live footage and replicate his fingering on the B string for the main riff to get the correct tone color and sustain character.
