Why these settings

The Cort CM15R is a 15W solid-state practice amp that cannot produce the cascaded high-gain saturation of Mark Heylmun's EVH 5150 III or Mesa Triple Rec. The amp's overdrive channel maxes out at classic rock crunch, not modern metal. I've set gain at 8 and treble at 7 to extract maximum aggression, but the tight brutal chug of the original requires an external distortion pedal. The CM15R lacks a presence control. Without a pedal, expect fuzzy breakup rather than defined chunk.

PRO TIPPalm-mute hard directly over the bridge saddles and pick with a steep attack angle using a heavy 1mm+ pick to maximize percussive chunk—the Cort X100's humbucker will respond to aggressive right-hand technique even through limited gain.
