Gain at 4 keeps the amp just breaking up on hard attacks while cleaning up when you dig in lighter - this touch sensitivity is critical to the SRV sound.

PRO TIPSRV's secret weapon was his brutal right-hand attack combined with heavy strings - compensate for your lighter strings by picking closer to the bridge and angling your pick so the edge scrapes the string. Roll your volume knob down to 7-8 for the verse, then push to 9-10 for the turnarounds to replicate his dynamic swells without touching a pedal.
