01Distortion Pedal (RECOMMENDED — not owned)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. A Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, MXR M116 Fullbore Metal, or TC Electronic Dark Matter would transform this tone. The Squier 15 cannot produce tight high-gain on its own. Run guitar → distortion pedal → amp with amp gain at 3-4 once you have this pedal.

Why these settings

The Squier 15 is a 15-watt solid-state practice amp with a single channel and limited gain headroom — it cannot replicate the saturated compression of a VHT Pitbull. I maxed the gain and pushed mids to 7 (vs the original's 5-6) because this amp has weak midrange presence compared to a high-gain tube head. Bass is dropped to 4 to prevent mud since small speakers lose definition with low-end. This will sound thin and fizzy compared to the record; a distortion pedal is essential to get anywhere close.

PRO TIPTune to drop B (B-F#-B-E-G#-C#) using heavy strings (11-56 minimum) and pick directly over the bridge pickup pole pieces with a thick 1mm+ pick, attacking at a slight downward angle — Mick's tight chug comes from precise palm-mute placement about 1cm from the saddles, not from gain alone.
