01Overdrive Pedal (RECOMMENDED — TS-style or Boss SD-1)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The Kokko KG10 is a small practice amp with limited gain; a TS-style overdrive in front will provide the Marshall crunch character this tone requires. Run into amp set near-clean.

Why these settings

The Kokko KG10 is a basic solid-state practice amp with only gain, bass, treble, and volume controls — no mid, presence, or reverb knobs exist on this unit. The original Marshall JCM tone has strong mid-push and power-amp saturation that this amp cannot replicate alone. With gain at 6 and treble at 6, you get the amp's maximum useful crunch without fizz; an external overdrive pedal is essential to reach the proper saturation level. Your Strat-style single coils are brighter and lower-output than Sek's Les Paul humbuckers, so treble is kept moderate.

PRO TIPRoll your Strat's volume knob to 7-8 for rhythm parts to clean up the attack slightly, then push to 10 for lead lines — this mimics the dynamic response Sek gets from his humbucker guitars through a cranked Marshall.
