The Katana's Brown voice replicates the hot-rodded Marshall Super Lead used on the recording. Warren DeMartini famously rolled bass almost completely off to keep low palm-mutes tight in drop D, so bass is pulled down to 3 while boosting mid and treble. Your Gibson Explorer's mahogany body and humbuckers are warmer than DeMartini's mapleneck Charvel/JB setup, requiring the extra treble bump to maintain top-end cut.
