01Marshall Shredmaster (or high-gain British distortion clone)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for Jonny's signature crushing chorus burst.
The Twin Reverb is a pristine clean tube platform with massive headroom and no onboard distortion channel, meaning you cannot physically replicate Jonny's high-gain solid-state crunch from the amplifier alone. Keep the bright switch off to stop the Strat bridge pickup from becoming ear-piercingly harsh through the Twin's high-frequency shelf. Acquiring a Marshall Shredmaster or aggressive high-gain distortion pedal is required to slam the Twin's front end for the chorus burst. Quiet verse: play the chords cleanly on the neck pickup with volume slightly lowered.
