01Treble Booster (or Mid-Boost / Tube Screamer-style block)

Essential for the May tone — cuts bass, pushes mids into the amp. Use a Treble Booster, Rangemaster, or TS-style block with Drive low and Level high if no dedicated treble boost exists

Level/Boost 7 · Tone/Treble 6

02Delay (slapback/room simulation)

Very short delay (30-50ms, 1 repeat) simulates the studio room mic. Subtle — you should feel depth, not hear echoes

Time 1 · Feedback/Repeats 1 · Level/Mix 3
Why these settings

Your Strat's single coils are brighter and thinner than May's series-wired humbucking setup. Compensate by boosting mid +1 and bass +1 vs a true AC30, and use the bridge+middle position to fatten the sound. The treble booster is non-negotiable for the compressed, singing midrange — without it, the tone will be too clean and lack sustain.

PRO TIPPick closer to the neck (around the 20th-22nd fret area) to get that woolly, vocal-like attack May is known for — picking near the bridge will sound too brittle on a Strat and expose the single-coil thinness.
