01Compressor Block (Red Comp / VCA)

Essential for Les Claypool's percussive attack and even dynamics

Boosts high-mid clank and snap while maintaining tight sub response

800Hz 8 · 2.5kHz 7 · 100Hz 5
Why these settings

The AMPLIFi 150 lacks physical presence and reverb knobs on its faceplate, so presence is nulled and EQ is centered on a pushed 800Hz-2.5kHz mid clank. The active Ibanez SR800 pickups deliver the fast transient response of Claypool's EMG-loaded Carl Thompson. Using the onboard Ampeg SVT model paired with onboard compression captures the aggressive slap thump and string definition without getting muddy.

PRO TIPFavor the bridge pickup slightly on your active blend, slap right over the end of the fretboard, and use light-gauge stainless steel roundwounds to nail the metallic percussive snap.
