Why these settings

The Squier SP-10 has only gain/treble/volume — no bass/mid/presence controls. Gain pushed to 7 compensates for the Strat's lower output vs the Les Paul humbucker; treble cut to 4 tames the Strat's natural brightness and mimics the darker Marshall midrange. Roll the guitar tone knob to 7 to further warm the single-coil bridge pickup. The talk box effect is unobtainable without the actual talk box hardware — a Dunlop Cry Baby wah pedal ($70-90 used) is the closest substitute for the vowel-filter effect on the chorus.

PRO TIPFrampton's phrasing on the rhythm sections uses slow, sustained bends with minimal vibrato — let each note ring fully before moving to the next chord. The talk box solo works because the underlying signal is smooth and clean; if you add a wah pedal later, keep your picking dynamics even and avoid clipping the input.
