Why these settings

The Fender M-80 is a solid-state amp like Dime's Randall — you're actually closer to the original than most tube amp owners. The M-80's distortion channel has aggressive high-end, so treble stays moderate at 6 and mids get scooped hard to 2. Your Les Paul's hotter PAF-style humbuckers have more midrange than Dime's L-500XL, so the deep mid-scoop compensates. Use the MXR Prime as a clean EQ boost (distortion knob at 0) to push the front end and shape the V-curve.

PRO TIPPalm mute directly over the bridge saddles, not further up the strings — Dime's attack came from extremely tight muting with the pick striking almost perpendicular to the strings for maximum chunk. The riff is all downstrokes.
