01Metal Distortion Pedal (e.g., Boss MT-2 Metal Zone)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. The FM15 DSP cannot produce Dimebag-level saturation alone. A Boss MT-2 or similar scooped metal distortion pedal is required to get close.

Why these settings

The Fender FM15 DSP is a small practice amp with limited gain and headroom—it cannot approach the Randall RG-100ES's tight, aggressive saturation. Your Squier Mini Strat's single-coil bridge pickup is lower output and brighter than Dimebag's hot Bill Lawrence humbucker, so bass is pushed +1 and treble dropped slightly to compensate. Without a high-gain distortion pedal, this tone is unobtainable; the recommended MT-2 or similar is mandatory. Set amp gain to max and mids scooped to mimic the Randall's characteristic metal voicing.

PRO TIPDimebag tuned to D standard at approximately A=432Hz (slightly flat of concert pitch)—tune D-G-C-F-A-D and detune each string about 15 cents flat for authentic pitch. Pick hard directly over the bridge pickup pole pieces for maximum attack and harmonic content.
