01High-gain distortion pedal (Boss DS-1, MXR Distortion+, or ProCo Rat)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. The Twin Reverb cannot produce high-gain saturation from its preamp alone.
The original uses a cranked JCM800 at high gain (8-9) for its saturation. The Twin Reverb is a pristine clean platform with no dirt channel — it physically cannot reach this gain level from the amp alone. Keep the Twin clean (gain 3) and run a high-gain distortion pedal in front as your sole saturation source. Mid pushed +1.5 vs the scooped JCM800 setting because the Twin is naturally scooped; treble dropped -1 because the Twin's treble shelf is brighter than a Marshall.
