01MXR Distortion+ (or clone: DOD 250, TC Electronic Cinders)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This pedal is ESSENTIAL for this tone. Rhoads ran his Marshall nearly clean and used the Distortion+ for all his grit. Without it, you cannot authentically recreate this sound. Budget option: Behringer SF300 set to OD mode, or any hard-clipping overdrive.

Output 10 · Distortion 4
Why these settings

The Frontman 15G is a solid-state practice amp with scooped mids and limited gain structure — the opposite of Rhoads' mid-boosted Marshall stack. I've maxed the gain and pushed mids to 8 to compensate for the Fender's natural mid-scoop and your Strat's bright single-coils versus his fat Les Paul humbucker. Treble dropped to 6 to tame the Strat's ice-pick highs. Without a Distortion+ pedal, this will sound thin and fizzy rather than thick and aggressive — the pedal is non-negotiable for this tone.

PRO TIPRhoads' secret weapon was the MXR Ten Band EQ boosting 500Hz by +10dB — if you ever add a cheap EQ pedal, slam that 500Hz slider to max and cut 4kHz slightly to nail that boxy, in-your-face midrange bark that cuts through any mix.
