Live forever amp settings — Boss Katana 50 MkII

The Oasis guitar tone for “Live forever”, dialed in for a Boss Katana 50 MkII with a Gibson Les Paul Classic. Studio version, Definitely Maybe (1994), recorded at Sawmills Studios

Original rig

1960s Gibson Les Paul with PAF-style humbuckers → Tube Screamer (boost) → Marshall JCM900 cranked, Boss CE-2 chorus on some layers

Big, open, just-breaking-up crunch with midrange punch and sustain — optimistic and anthemic, not heavy

01Katana Booster (TS/OD type via Tone Studio)

Use the Green or Yellow Booster — set via Tone Studio to a Tube Screamer-style OD. This pushes the Crunch channel into Noel's saturated-but-clear zone.

Subtle slapback on solo sections only — keep it low in the mix

Optional — adds shimmer to cleaner arpeggiated parts. Turn off for main power-chord rhythm.

Why these settings

The Katana's Crunch channel approximates a pushed Marshall. The original was cranked to near-10 on everything, but that's a volume-driven tone — we replicate the *sound* at lower volume by using mid-gain settings and the internal Booster as your Tube Screamer. Mid pushed to 7 compensates for the Katana's slightly flatter midrange vs a real JCM900's honk. Bass pulled to 4 keeps it tight like the original's tight low-end.

PRO TIPNoel strummed hard with a heavy pick and let open strings ring — the wall-of-sound comes from confident, full strums and letting chords breathe, not from stacking gain. Roll your guitar volume to 7-8 for the verses to clean up, then slam it to 10 for choruses.
