RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. A DS-1, MT-2 Metal Zone, or any high-gain distortion pedal is essential here. The Stagg 10 GA cannot produce this level of saturation on its own. Run the amp completely clean and let the pedal do ALL the gain work.

Why these settings

The Stagg 10 GA is a 10-watt practice amp with limited gain and no channel switching — it cannot replicate Mesa high-gain saturation. I maxed the gain to squeeze every bit of dirt from the preamp, scooped the mids to 3 for that Black Album scoop, and pushed bass/treble to 7 for the chunk and cut. Without a distortion pedal, you will get a crunchy-ish tone at best, not the crushing wall of the original. A budget distortion pedal (DS-1, Metal Zone, Joyo High Gain) is non-negotiable for this tone.

PRO TIPTune to Eb standard and use extremely tight, aggressive downpicking with heavy palm muting right at the bridge saddles — Hetfield's attack is half the tone. Roll your tone knob to 7 to tame the fizz that small amps produce at max gain.
