Why these settings

The Max GigKit is a budget practice amp with limited gain and EQ range compared to the original Mark IIC+. Mids dropped to 3 to approximate the classic 'scooped' V-shaped thrash EQ. Gain pushed to 8 to extract maximum saturation from the amp — this will not fully replicate the tight high-gain compression of a Mesa, but gets the aggressive character. A distortion pedal (Boss DS-1, MT-2, or similar) would dramatically improve this tone.

PRO TIPHetfield's tone is 90% technique: strict alternate downpicking with the pick angled slightly, palm muting right at the bridge saddles for maximum tightness. Practice the relentless downstroke attack before tweaking knobs — no amp setting fixes sloppy picking on this song.
