Why these settings

The Laney LF212 is a solid-state combo without a presence control — that knob is null. The original IIC+ runs gain 9-10 with extreme mid-scoop (3-4 on Mesa's 0-10 scale); your Laney's drive channel saturates earlier and has less mid-cut by default, so gain 8 reaches similar saturation without fizz, and mid 3 achieves the signature V-shaped scoop. Bass raised to 7 compensates for the LF212's tighter low-end response vs the original's 4x12 cabinet thump.

PRO TIPThe Hetfield 'chunk' comes from extremely precise downpicking with the pick angled slightly and palm muting positioned right at the bridge saddles — move your palm even 1cm toward the neck and the attack gets flubby. Practice the main riff at 50% tempo with a metronome until every downstroke is identical.
