Why these settings

The Vibro-Champ is a tiny 6-watt tube amp with zero headroom—it breaks up softly even at low gain. The Katana's Clean channel is much stiffer and brighter, so I've dropped treble to 4 and presence to 3 to tame the Katana's digital edge. Gain at 2 adds just enough warmth to simulate tube sag without actual dirt. Your Pacifica's Alnico V single coils are brighter and hotter than Mac's worn Teisco, so rolling the tone knob to 6 darkens it toward that lo-fi murk.

PRO TIPMac's tone lives in the chorus depth—crank it until the pitch wobbles uncomfortably, then back off one notch. Pick lightly near the neck pickup with the fleshy part of your thumb grazing the strings for that pillowy attack he uses on the arpeggiated verses.
