The Kirk hammets solo guitar tone for “Master of puppets”, dialed in for a M-Vave Tank G with a PRS Custom 24. Studio version solo, Master of Puppets (1986)
Jackson Randy Rhoads Custom (EMG 81 bridge) -> Ibanez TS9 / Dunlop Cry Baby Wah -> Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ (slaved into Marshall JCM800 2203 power amp) into Marshall 4x12 cab
| Knob | Setting (0–10) |
|---|---|
| Gain | 7 |
| Bass | 5 |
| Mid | 4 |
| Treble | 7 |
| Reverb | 2 |
| Master | 6 |
01Tank G Overdrive Block (TS-style Booster)
Used strictly as a clean boost to tighten low end and add saturation ahead of the amp model
02Tank G Delay Block (Analog/Digital Delay)
Set to roughly 320ms subtle tape/digital slap to widen solo phrasing
The M-Vave Tank G's faceplate EQ uses Bass, Middle, and Treble without a dedicated physical Presence knob, so presence is nulled. Kirk recorded this solo with an EMG 81 into a Mesa Mark IIC+ boosted by a TS9; on your PRS Custom 24's passive humbuckers, pushing Treble to 7 and using the internal OD block with low Drive and high Level tightens the pick attack to emulate hot active EMGs. Mesa lead tones require pulling the Mid down slightly to 4 to evoke the classic graphic-EQ 'V' scoop without getting lost in the mix.
