Use as a CLEAN BOOST only — gain at zero. This pushes the amp's preamp for added sustain and compression without muddying the tone. The 5150 OD has a tight low-end which helps keep the Peavey focused.

Why these settings

The Peavey VIP 2's US High Gain voice approximates the JCM800's midrange bark. Your Nova Sonic Go likely has ceramic humbuckers — hotter and brighter than Slash's Alnico IIs — so I dropped treble by 1 and raised mids by 1 versus original settings to compensate for the ceramic edge. The 5150 OD as a clean boost adds the sustain and compression Slash got from cranked tubes and feedback loops. Reverb is higher than typical because the original studio mix floated the solo in lush hall verb.

PRO TIPSlash's secret on this solo is wide, slow vibrato from the wrist — not finger vibrato. Dig in on the initial attack, then let the note bloom and add vibrato after it speaks. Roll your guitar volume back to 8 during quieter phrases to clean up the attack, then push to 10 for the climactic bends.
