RECOMMENDED — not owned. The Laney AH80 is a keyboard/acoustic amp with a flat, clean response and no natural breakup. It cannot produce Marshall-style overdrive on its own. You NEED a dirt pedal. Best budget options: Boss DS-1, MXR Dookie Drive, Behringer TO800 (Tube Screamer clone), or Joyo JF-01 Vintage Overdrive. Set the pedal for medium gain with mids emphasized.

Why these settings

The Laney AH80 is a flat-response keyboard amp — it has no preamp distortion circuit and will stay clean at all gain levels. The original tone came from a hot-rodded tube Plexi; without a dirt pedal, this tone is unobtainable on your rig. I've set the AH80 EQ to add mids (+7) and cut bass (-4 vs the original's 5) to compensate for the amp's neutral voicing and your Squier's brighter single-coil-sized pickups. The recommended pedal becomes your entire gain stage.

PRO TIPBillie Joe's clarity comes from aggressive downstroke picking with the pick angled slightly. Dig in hard on the downstrokes and let the notes breathe — the tone is tighter than it sounds, and sloppiness will expose the lack of compression your rig has compared to a cranked tube amp.
