01Distortion Pedal (RECOMMENDED — Boss DS-1 or ProCo Rat clone)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The GA-10 is a small practice amp that cannot produce the saturated high-gain compression of a Dual Rectifier on its own. A distortion pedal is essential to get anywhere close. Run amp gain at 3-4 if you add this pedal.

Why these settings

The Austin GA-10 is a 10W solid-state practice amp with limited gain and no presence control. I pushed gain to 8 (its maximum usable saturation), cut bass to 4 to prevent flub through the small speaker, and rolled tone knob to 8 to tame the inherent brightness of your ST-100's single coils vs Grohl's humbuckers. Without a distortion pedal, you will get a crunchy tone but not the wall-of-sound compression of the original.

PRO TIPTune to Drop D and use your picking hand aggressively close to the bridge — Grohl's attack is percussive and tight. The riff's dynamics come from palm-muting pressure, not gain amount.
