Why these settings

The MG15CDR is a solid-state practice amp with less touch sensitivity than EVH's Variac'd Plexi. Push mid to 7 (vs original's 5-6) to compensate for the MG's flatter midrange response. Drop bass to 4 because the small 8" speaker can't handle low-end the way a 4x12 can — too much bass gets muddy. Your GRG170DX's Infinity humbuckers are hotter than EVH's PAF, so gain at 7 is sufficient. Keep reverb at 0 — the original is bone dry.

PRO TIPEVH's 'brown sound' relied heavily on pick attack dynamics — dig in hard on downstrokes for the shuffle riff, then lighten up for the tapping sections. On the MG15, rolling your guitar volume to 7-8 during cleaner passages will give you the only dynamics this amp can muster.
