01Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz (RECOMMENDED)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The FZ-2 adds gritty upper-octave bite and sustain that the ADA MP-1 + Marshall 9200 stack provided. Without it, push amp gain to 10 and accept slightly less articulation.
The Nux Mighty 20 Mk2's Ultra channel approximates the Marshall power amp grind, but the Strat's single-coil bridge pickup outputs roughly 40% less than Carpenter's JB humbucker. Bass is pushed to 7 to compensate for the Strat's thinner low-end and to simulate the Drop C# detuning's weight. Mid is set to 7 (not scooped) because the ADA MP-1's clarity in low tunings came from forward mids — essential when detuned. Treble is reduced to 5 because the Strat is naturally 3-4kHz brighter than a humbucker-loaded ESP. The FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz is the missing link — it added the compressed, saturated grind that defined this tone; without it, the Strat will sound thinner and less brutal.
