01Distortion Pedal (Boss DS-1, MT-2, or similar)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The Champion 25's gain structure cannot reach Rectifier-level saturation. A distortion pedal is essential for this tone. Run amp on Clean channel with low gain (2-3) if using this pedal.
The original uses a high-gain Rectifier with scooped mids — the Champion 25 is a practice amp that cannot physically reach this saturation level even at max gain. I've set the Lead channel with Voice II for the tightest available response, bass dropped from 7 to 5 (the Champion's small 8" speaker gets flubby with too much low-end), and treble raised to 7 to compensate for the amp's darker voicing vs Mesa's aggressive top-end. Without a distortion pedal, this will sound like aggressive blues crunch, not nu-metal.
