Why these settings

The original tone relies on a high-gain tube preamp (ADA MP-1) driving high wattage into a 4x12 cab. On the Cort MX15 solid-state practice amp, engage the Distortion channel and set gain to 8 to achieve sufficient saturation without turning the 8-inch speaker muddy. Keep bass moderate at 6 to prevent speaker flub in Drop Db tuning while pushing treble to 7 for articulate pick bite.

PRO TIPTune the guitar to Drop Db (Eb standard dropped to Db: Db-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb) and hit the open low strings hard with aggressive downstrokes to get Stephen Carpenter's signature ringing chord resonance.
