The Max Music practice amp cannot produce Dual Rectifier saturation from its preamp alone — gain 7 is the musical ceiling before the small speaker breaks up badly. For authentic results, a distortion pedal is mandatory; when added, drop amp gain to 3-4 to avoid double-gain mud. The Jackson's passive humbuckers are slightly lower output than the original EMG actives, so pedal gain compensates.
