01Behringer TM300 Tube Amp Modeler

Set switches to: Mod = Clean, Mic = Classic, Amp = Brit. Acting as a front-end Marshall-style overdrive boost (direct into amp input).

Level 8 · Low 5 · High 7 · Drive 2
Why these settings

The Laney LX120RT solid-state circuit is inherently warmer and lacks the raw upper-mid spike of Zakk's 6550-loaded Marshall JCM800, plus it has no physical presence control. We use the Behringer TM300 set to Brit/Clean mode with low drive and high level in front to tighten the low end and slam the Laney's drive channel, mirroring Zakk's classic SD-1 into JCM800 boost technique. Keep the Laney's mids around 6 rather than fully scooped to maintain harmonic cut and punch.

PRO TIPDig in hard with heavy pick attack right near the bridge pickup and use the side of your thumb for Zakk's signature squealing pinch harmonics on the dropped-tuning riffs.
